Kenya Peaberry Theresia Microlot
Kenya has long been known as a country that produces an excellent coffee consistently. The coffee is known for intense, vibrant acidity, clean finish, and moderately heavy body. We have had great success in finding Kenyan coffees that match this profile over the past several years, but this year we found a pleasant surprise from this country.
Kenya Peaberry Theresia Microlot is one of the most interesting Kenyan coffees we have ever encountered. While still distinctly Kenyan, this coffee features a rich, buttery flavor with delightful spice notes.
This coffee is the peaberry production from a single tiny farm. Although Wilson's Coffee & Tea has purchased all of this, supply is extremely limited and we expect to sell out of this unique coffee quickly.
Kenya Peaberry Theresia Microlot is available now, $10 per pound exclusively at Wilson's Coffee & Tea.
Peaberries
Peaberry refers to the shape of the bean. Normally, coffee grows with two beans per cherry, each with a flat side. In normal growing conditions, a small percentage of cherries will contain only one bean. Certain soil conditions can increase the proportion of peaberries produced. When a peaberry forms, the side of the coffee bean that is normally flat becomes round. Sometimes these peaberries are sorted from normal coffee beans and sold as a separate lot. While peaberries will taste different from normal coffee beans grown on the same tree, the effect on the quality of the coffee is not consistent even within a particular harvest. Some peaberries will have a better flavor, others will not. While we always try to purchase the best tasting coffee available, the peaberry designation should not be considered meaningful as any specific indication of quality.
